Berkhamsted Collegiate School
Work at this prestigious school in Berkhamsted commenced with the demolition and removal from site of existing air raid shelters, and the infilling of a disused outside swimming pool.
The Client required the construction of a sports hall, fitness suite and swimming pool, with combined changing/showering facilities, separate from the main school building but linked at first floor level by a pedestrian bridge.
For aesthetic reasons, the new facility was cut into the side of an existing hill to reduce dramatically the visual impact and the Planners decided that the roof to the new building should be ‘green’ and consequently covered in grass or a vegetation blanket.
Work was completed early 2004 and the centre was officially opened by H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh.
