Yesodey Hatorah School
A newbuild design and construction contract for a girls' secondary education establishment for the Jewish Community in Stamford Hill, London.

The brief
Comissioned to design and construct a brand new educational establishment for the Jewish Community in Stamford Hill, London, HG Construction undertook this project on behalf of the Local Education Authority. Specific requirements were:
- To make maximum use of the space in this previously brownfield site
- To ensure Health and Safety elements were paramount in both the construction process and the final result
- To provide Best Value
What we did
The building comprises approximately 4000m2 of floor space for up to 450 pupils and is a combination of traditional and modern construction. Elevations comprise face brickwork with cedar cladding and aluminium window infills. The central library area is clad in aluminium curtain walling to add visual impact. The roofs are mainly of curved aluminium upstand seam construction with curved perforated liner sheets exposed to view internally bearing on glulam timber ‘bowstring’ beams.
The results
Finishes within the building have been kept as simple as possible for low maintenance costs, but careful thought and design have been put in to ensure acoustics are designed to the latest high standards for schools. External areas have been carefully landscaped to maintain all the existing mature trees with modesty mounding to shield the playground and external sports areas.
