Cambria House
This contract was for the Salvation Army Housing Association to provide temporary to permanent accommodation for those in need of a protected environment.
The brief
This contract was procured under JCT 98 with Contractor's Design for the construction of 49 no. flats in cluster formation and communal areas.
What we did
The works commenced with the demolition of the original building situated between existing full height buildings, followed by 100% site coverage construction of basement plus 5 storeys. Co-ordination was required with adjacent building occupiers to inform the expected work schedules. Flexibility was provided within the designs which could accommodate changes to suit the remaining buildings and their occupants.
The location of the project at a busy intersection presented the site operation with numerous challenges regarding materials' deliveries, site security etc.
The result
The contract period was 73 weeks and completed in summer 2006.
This building was the winner of the Camden Building Quality Awards 2007 in the New Dwellings category.
